ネットを頼ったところ、オーストラリア英語特有の表現のようです。

実は上記の引用記事の続きに答えは明かされています。下記のようにあります。


"Shirtfront" is an Australian sports term meaning a violent confrontation. Translated into Canadian, it would be akin to boasting that you were going to "drop the gloves."

なるほど、これなら意味が分かります。

オーストラリアのアボット首相はマレーシア航空がウクライナ上空で親ロシア派の軍に撃墜されたことを遺憾に思っている訳ですが、G20サミットでそのことについて触れるという対決姿勢を明確にしたそうです。

"drop the gloves"ともありますが、"throw down the gauntlet"と同じで、ケンカをする時の作法でしょうか。

"shirtfront"とは、オーストラリアにおけるフットボールの試合で見られるような危険なタックルのことを指しているそうです。
