iPhone 6にまたしても問題 ― pull hair out

iPhone 6に関連してまたしてもやっかいな問題が報じられています。

iPhone 6をズボンの後ろポケットなどに入れたまま座ってしまうと曲がってしまうという問題が大きな話題になったばかりですが、今回は通話をするために耳に当てていると髪の毛やヒゲが引っかかって抜けてしまった、というもののようです。


The furore over Bendgate -- the supposed desire for the frame of the iPhone six to bend -- appears to have died down, but now Apple might have another "discussion" on their hands -- and this time clients are literally pulling their hair out over the issue.

The most recent difficulty with the iPhone six handset is that some clients are reporting their hair becoming caught while making calls.

さて、"pull one's hair out"という成句をご存知でしょうか？これは、髪の毛を引っこ抜く、ということですが、困難でやっかいな状況に追い込まれた人がパニックになって髪の毛を掻き毟る、あの状況を表現するものです。

ランダムハウス英和辞書には載っていなかったのですが、Collins Cobuild Dictionary of Idiomsを引くと


If you say that someone is tearing their hair out or pulling their hair out, you mean that they are very angry, upset, or anxious about something


という定義がありました。

今回の問題は髪の毛がアイフォーンに引っかかって抜けてしまうという訳で、この問題に悩まされるユーザーのことと掛けた、ある意味しゃれを利かせた言い回しでもあります。
